about

“I use an old 1970's electro-acoustic Eko Ranger XII acoustic guitar body. I divorced it from its neck some years ago due to an unfixable neck-block crack which was producing an alarming and uncontrollable escalation in the instrument's string action. The removal of the neck forced me to look at the thing differently, as if it were still an instrument and not just a wooden box. I developed new approaches involving electronics, kinetic and percussive investigations and a feedback loop system. After several years of working exclusively in this way, I feel that I have developed a number of techniques to a point where I can "play" the thing in as expressive a way as if it were a conventional instrument.” (PKM)

As well as using the guitar body for solo improvisation, Paul Khimasia Morgan has worked collaboratively with Steve Beresford, Blanca Regina and Richard Sanderson, Mark Wastell’s THE SEEN, Cristián Alvear, Daniel Spicer, Charlotte Keefe, Gus Garside, Klaus Janek, Simon Whetham, Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga, Ryu Hankil and others. He promotes improvised music and sound art projects in Brighton and the South Coast under the banner aural detritus concert series, and is the host of The Archive of Aural Detritus podcast. Paul writes about new music for The Sound Projector.
